A Lincoln consultancy for people who run studios
buzzura explains and advises on broadcast technology for television and live media, in plain language written for working production teams across the UK.

From the studio floor to a consultancy in Lincoln
buzzura was founded in 2014 by Helen Marsden, who had spent years as a studio technical operator. The company is based at Brayford Wharf Lane in Lincoln and advises television and live media teams on how their studios actually run.

Helen started buzzura after seeing the same problems repeat from one production to the next. Camera setups were inherited rather than chosen, lighting plans lived in one person's head, and sync faults were blamed on whichever department spoke last. The idea was simple: write down what works, in terms an operator can use on the day.
Today the company covers camera configurations, stage lighting, audio synchronisation, control room workflows, documentation and crew training. Each area is led by someone who works in it, so a lighting question goes to Daniel Whitcombe and a lip-sync fault goes to Priya Chandran, not to a general helpdesk.
Our clients are studio engineers, producers and small broadcast teams across the UK. Many of them have no in-house technical author and no spare days to build a runbook. We take the review, the plan or the training day off their hands and hand back something they can use the following week.
We write for the person standing in the gallery, not for a procurement committee. Recommendations name the actual setting, the actual cable path or the actual cue, and they say what to change first. If a problem is cheap to fix, we say so rather than suggesting new equipment.
The company stays deliberately small. That keeps advice consistent, keeps the people who reviewed your studio available when you have a question afterwards, and means every document carries the name of the consultant who wrote it.
A steady method from first enquiry to written advice
Every piece of work follows the same outline, whether it is a camera review or a training day. The steps are kept short on purpose so that you always know what we have asked of you, what we have done and what you are receiving.
Enquiry and scoping
You tell us about the studio, the programme or event, the team and the problem as you see it. We ask follow-up questions by phone or e-mail until the scope is clear enough to put in writing.
Written quotation
We prepare a quotation based on the scope, listing what is included and what could change the price. Nothing begins until you have read it and confirmed in writing that it matches what you want.
Review or site work
The consultant responsible studies your drawings, signal paths and plans, and where needed spends time in the studio observing the crew at work. We note how things are done, not only how they are meant to be done.
Written recommendations
We turn the findings into a clear document ordered by priority, so the changes that matter most come first. Each recommendation says what to change, where and why, in wording your crew can follow.
Follow-up questions
After delivery you can come back with questions about anything in the document. We clarify wording, explain reasoning and adjust details that do not fit how your team really works.
What we stand for
-
Clarity
Technical advice is only useful if the crew can read it at a desk or in the gallery. We use plain sentences, labelled diagrams and short checklists, and we explain terms the first time they appear.
-
Accuracy
We check signal paths, settings and cue details against what is actually in your studio. If we cannot confirm something, the document says so instead of guessing, and we flag it for you to verify.
-
Practicality
Recommendations are ordered by what a small team can realistically change first. We favour adjustments to existing kit and procedure before suggesting new equipment, and we write for the budget and time you have.
-
Honesty
If a fault lies outside our field or a fix is better handled by the equipment supplier, we say so. Our reports describe what we found, including the parts of your setup that already work well.
