Practical advice for studio and live production

We review camera setups, lighting, audio sync and control room workflows, then write up what we find in plain language your whole crew can use.

What we help production teams with

Cameras, lenses and signal paths

We look at how your studio cameras are configured, which lenses suit the set, and how signal travels to the gallery. You receive a written review with clear recommendations. Nothing is changed on your kit without your say.

  • Camera configuration reviews
  • Lens choice for studio sets
  • Signal path checks
  • Written recommendations

Lighting and audio that line up

Daniel writes lighting plans and cue guidance for studio sets and live stages. Priya traces lip-sync and latency faults through microphones, mixers and playout. Both pieces of work end in documents your crew can follow.

  • Stage lighting design advice
  • Cue guidance for live shows
  • Audio synchronisation audits
  • Latency tracing across chains

Gallery workflow and crew skills

We plan the layout and operating procedures of your control room, from vision mixing to talkback. Tom then turns them into runbooks and checklists. Training days cover studio fundamentals for new and junior crew.

  • Control room workflow planning
  • Live production runbooks
  • Checklists for repeat shows
  • Half-day and full-day training

About us

A Lincoln consultancy built by operators

buzzura was founded in 2014 by Helen Marsden, who had spent years as a studio technical operator. That background shapes how we write: we describe what happens on the floor and in the gallery, not what looks good on a diagram.

Our small team covers cameras, lighting and staging, audio and sync, and training and documentation. Each of us works in the area we know best, so advice comes from the person who has actually done the job.

We value clarity, accuracy and practicality. Reports are written for producers, engineers and small broadcast teams across the UK, and they are meant to be used the next day, not filed away.

How we work

Advice written for the people who run the show

Production teams rarely have spare time to decode technical reports. Our guidance is built around what a crew needs on the day: what to check, what to change and what to leave alone.

Review before recommending

We start by understanding how your studio or live setup is actually used. That means looking at the equipment, the signal chain, the crew's habits and the shows you produce. Only then do we write recommendations. Each one explains the reason behind it, so your engineers can judge it against their own experience. If something already works well, we say so and leave it alone.

Plain written output

Every piece of work ends in a document: a review, a lighting plan, an audit report, a workflow outline or a runbook. We avoid jargon where a simpler word will do, and we define terms where it will not. Documents are laid out so a gallery team can use them at the desk, with clear headings, ordered steps and checklists where they help.

Suited to small teams

Many of our clients are small broadcast and live media teams without a dedicated systems department. We keep recommendations proportionate to your kit, your budget and your crew size. Training sessions pitch at new and junior crew, and the runbooks we write are meant to be repeated reliably by whoever is on shift.

Our process

From first enquiry to a document your crew can use

Each engagement follows the same plain sequence, whether it is a camera review or a full workflow plan. We agree the scope in writing before work begins, and you can see what you will receive at every stage.

  1. Enquiry through the contact page

You describe your studio or live setup, the problem you want solved and the service you are interested in. We read it carefully and may reply with a few questions so that we understand the situation before suggesting anything.

  2. Written quotation

We set out what the work covers, what it leaves out, what we need from you and the price. You review it at your own pace and tell us if anything should change before you confirm.

  3. Review and fieldwork

We examine your equipment, signal paths, lighting or workflows, depending on the service. Where a visit helps, we arrange it around your production schedule rather than the other way round.

  4. Report and recommendations

We write up findings in clear language, with recommendations in a sensible order and the reasoning behind each one. We also flag what is working well so you do not change it unnecessarily.

  5. Handover and follow-up questions

We walk through the document with you or your crew and answer questions about it. Where training is part of the work, the session takes place at this point. An invoice follows, paid by bank transfer.

Questions we are often asked

Here are short answers about scope, working practice and how to get started. If yours is not covered, send it through the contact page and we will reply directly.

  1. Who is buzzura for?

We work with studio engineers, producers and small broadcast teams across the UK. Clients range from teams running regular studio programmes to crews preparing for live media events. If you operate cameras, lighting, audio or a gallery and want clearer procedures or a second opinion, our services are likely to fit.

  2. Do you visit our studio or work remotely?

It depends on the service. A lighting plan or a workflow document can often be prepared from drawings, notes and conversations. Camera reviews and sync audits usually benefit from seeing the equipment running. We agree this in the quotation, so you know in advance what is needed from you.

  3. Will you change settings on our equipment?

Our role is to assess and advise. We write down what we found and what we suggest, and your own engineers decide what to implement. If you would like us to talk your team through a change, we can include that in the scope, agreed in writing beforehand.

  4. How do you price your work?

Each service has a price on our prices page, with notes on what is included and what can change the figure. After your enquiry we send a written quotation that confirms the exact amount for your situation. Nothing is charged until you have agreed to it.

  5. How does payment work?

You send an enquiry through the contact page, and we reply with a written quotation or confirmation. Once the work is agreed, we issue an invoice, which you pay by bank transfer. Cancellations and refunds follow our payment and refunds policy, which is available on the site.

  6. Can you train new or junior crew?

Yes. Tom runs half-day and full-day sessions on studio fundamentals, pitched at new and junior crew. Content can be shaped around your own studio, so people learn on the workflows they will actually use. We discuss the topics and group size with you before confirming.

  7. What do the documents look like?

They are written to be used on the day. Reports have clear headings and ordered recommendations, runbooks use step-by-step lists and checklists, and lighting plans pair drawings with cue notes. We try to keep each document short enough to be read and specific enough to be followed.

  8. How do I get started?

Use the form on the contact page to tell us about your studio or production and what you would like help with. A short description is enough. We will reply, ask any questions we need and, if it makes sense, send a written quotation.
